On Wednesday 28 September Florence Jeantet (vice-president R&D Danone Baby Nutrition) and Hanno Cappon (vice-president R&D Danone Medical Nutrition) carried out the festive groundbreaking ceremony for the new Danone Innovation Center in Utrecht. They were assisted by Chris Buijink (Secretary-General Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation), Mirjam de Rijk (Alderman Economic Affairs Utrecht), Yvonne van Rooy (Chair Board of Governors Utrecht University), Jean-Philippe Paré (vice-president Danone Research), Eric Moleman (regional director BAM Commercial and Industrial Building) and Bas van Holten (General Manager OVG Nederland). In his speech, Chris Buijink concluded: "With this facility, Danone demonstrates its belief in the Dutch investment and innovation climate. With our new economic policy, we believe we're demonstrating a corresponding belief in Danone as a true partner in improving our international competitiveness in the coming years."

Danone plays an active role in the two top technological institutes that are at the center of these two sectors, namely TI Pharma and TI for Food and Nutrition. Yet more proof of its spirit of open innovation, and its eagerness for cooperation in public-private partnerships. The new 20,000 square meter innovation center, scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2013, is being developed at the Utrecht Science Park, an international, prominent cluster of scientific research and knowledge-intensive activities. In this new building Danone will centralize R&D activities currently carried out in the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain. With high-quality scientific research, the new international research center will support the Danone brands in baby food and the medical food divisions, including Nutricia, a brand connected to the Netherlands from way back.
