Thursday 25 March HG played host to a high profile seminar/matchmaking event organized by the Swedish Trade Council in cooperation with the Dutch Trade organization IRO. The seminar entitled “Offshore Seminar Holland - Opportunities for Swedish subcontractors & Dutch offshore industry 2010”, was conceived for the purpose of allowing the main players in the Dutch offshore industry to meet and discuss business with Swedish subcontractors. The second stage of the event would provide the opportunity for both parties to negotiate possible business deals. Successful deals would of course be the ultimate benchmarks for the effectiveness of the event. The event kicked off with an introduction by one of the organizers, Emma Hemmingson, in which she expressed her appreciation for the full attendance and early enthusiasm shown. She went on to introduce the day’s first speaker, Hans de Boer, managing director of IRO. Hans de Boer started off giving an explanation of what IRO does and how they are involved in the oil and gas industry. It was a good intro and appetizer for a day that would see many interesting discourses by equally interesting individuals. One of which, was Keppel Verolme’s procurement manager Kees Jan Zwarts. Kees Jan Zwarts explained how the Keppel group does business and gave some background on how the company had succeeded in growing into a group with an annual turnover in excess of 8.5 billion Euros. Another impressive figure mentioned was Keppel group's total workforce of 29.000. Kees Jan Zwarts went on to explain more about the Keppel Velrome’s ship and offshore yard in Rotterdam. Further speakers included Bronswerk Heat Transfer’s manager procurement Chris van den Elsaker, Bayards Aluminium Constructies’ Dick de Kluijver, and Edwin de Korte, manager procurement of Heerema Marine Contractors. The speakers all explained how they do business and what exact needs they wished to see met. The attentive audience was made up of a diverse crowd of top-level players in the field of offshore industry, with the Swedish subcontractors being most keen on finding out how the Dutch offshore industry functions and what immediate needs lay open. Finally after the last speaker finished, the road was clear for negotiation which went on till late in the afternoon. Though confidentiality was observed without fail, the contentment on many of the attendees’ faces suggested the negotiations were mostly successful. At close of the event the participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers and Holland Gateway for hosting the event. Many left with new deals and partnerships and considered the event a resounding success. |
