Frequently Asked Questions

Knowledge Sharing

The Netherlands provide a hospitable business environment to deliver companies with knowledge and resources to turn innovation into bottom-line results. This is achieved through a close university-industry cooperation, supportive government authorities, strong venture capitalist back-up and dynamic business eco-system.

The Netherlands has one of the world’s most highly educated populations with a very strong interest in science: 32% of students pursuing higher education participate in science programmes. There are over 60,000 researchers in Dutch companies, universities and research institutes. The internationally renowned research universities are well developed and are highly influential in the world.

Holland Gateway assists companies interested in connecting with the highly acclaimed educational institutions as well as private companies with joint interest in knowledge and product development. We work closely together with the Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU). The VSNU represents the shared interests of the fourteen research universities in the Netherlands in the fields of research, education, knowledge transfer, funding, personnel policy and international affairs.

The research universities in the Netherlands are all very much focussed on establishing and maintaining an international profile. Part of this comes from the fact that many of their services and activities are geared towards an international clientele. It is a choice of many of these faculties to try to approach an as large as possible international group.

The Dutch research universities also have a great international reputation. What makes them special is not only their scientific prowess, but the network in which they operate. It is common for Dutch universities to have a very strongly developed network of public and private bodies, parties which are used for garnering information, as well as supplying information to, when applicable. This back and forth of information has long been the backbone of these exemplary relations and has greatly improved the mutual understanding between entities that teach and entities that employ. It has shown time and time again that these relationships are mutually beneficial and greatly improve knowledge transfer and generation.
